Satellite Towns’ Development Department Gets New Coordinator

Comrade Obinna Francis Ogwuebu has been appointed Coordinator of the Federal Capital Territory Satellite Towns Development Department. Ogwuebu was one of the  appointees  inaugurated by the FCT Minister, Mohammad Musa Bello. In an event to mark the official handover, the Acting Coordinator Olusegun Olusa in his opening remark, thanked God for how far God has led the department from his predecessors up till his time and expressed happiness in handing over the mantle to his successor, Comrade Obinna Francis Ogwuegbu. He maintained that the Abuja master plan provides for the development of the satellite towns on account of the need to accelerate provision of basic amenities in satellite towns such as roads, water supply and electricity. He reiterated that the then administration of the Federal Capital Territory established the Satellite Towns Development Agency through order 1 of 2004 which was later reversed to a department by subsequent administration and served the responsibilities of providing basic amenities cum the statutory responsibility of the department which includes among others: open up, develop the satellite towns and provide infrastructural facilities to teeming rural dwellers thereby improving their living standards, providing enabling environment among others.  These provisions acquire the Agency the vision and mission of the agency which is to create efficient, functional, sustainable and economically progressive satellite towns. While maintaining that about sixty percent of the human population of Abuja lives in the satellite towns; he expressed hope in his successor on the achievement of the department as an agency.

The Coordinator, Comrade Obinna expressed confidence among all staff while noting that there are great works to be done. He hereby urged all hands to be  on the deck and as professionals he expects a high level of understanding, ethical values and discipline along lines of duties and interactions.

He pleaded never to work in an environment that is so beaurocratic warning that it hampers success, growth, endangers mentoring and in the long run turns the mandate of the institution upside down. The Coordinator reminded  staff that the spirit that sets up the department is meant take development to the residents of satellite towns, urging staff to show consistency and drive in order to demand what deservedly belongs to them so as to achieve speedy and evidential development among the masses who resides in the satellite towns of the FCT who statically forms the majority of the residents in the federal capital.
