Ronaldo’s Autograph, Governor Wike’s Only Achievement during Trip to Madrid ~ INCRA

The Inter-ethnic Network for Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi (INCRA), has described the recent trip to Spain by the governor of Rivers State as untenable and a white-wash. This was made public to newsmen in Port Harcourt during the early hours of Wednesday afternoon.

The statement reads:

The Inter-ethnic Network for Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, INCRA, expresses great shock over the claims of the Rivers State Government that the Governor travelled to Spain to commence talks with the management of Real Madrid FC on setting up a football academy in Rivers State.

The statement is fraught with falsehood and intended to beguile the unsuspecting public into believing the government has genuine concerns for in the State. Obviously, this white-wash is the government’s desperate attempt to disculpate itself from the blame of the monumental waste of resources and profligate spending of taxpayers money.

If the Governor is certain that this newly found love and interest in sports development is well-intended and above board and not a fanciful impulse, we  would expect him to accordingly channel this energy and resources towards reviving the Rivers State Sports Institute in Issaka which has been in a State of obscurity and negligence.

We are of the view that if the State-owned Sports Institute and Football Club like Rivers United FC are well funded and developed, it would attract foreign investors in sports thereby, lifting sports in the State out of precipice.

For instance, in Lagos State, their achievement in sports attracted the management of Barcelona FC to Lagos and plans to set up an academy of the Club in the State are in top gear. Conversely, in Rivers State, the Governor is the one chasing after the management of Real Madrid FC to set up its academy in the State.

In fact, according to the statement, the only achievement the Governor has recorded after 48 hours in Madrid is an autograph of the Real Madrid FC star, Cristiano Ronaldo and a Jersey of the club with the inscription “NEW” on it being an acronym for Nyesom Ezenwo Wike. The Governor is yet to have any formal talks or engagement in respect to setting of an academy in Rivers State with the top management of the club.

There is certainly no end to the Governor’s artifice and prevarication has become the order of the day in his government while truth and transparency are unwanted strangers. Whether the Governor’s wild goose chase will translate into any meaningful result or not is yet to be seen.
