Men of the Rivers state police command have intercepted a bus allegedly filled with political thugs believed to be working for the PDP, they were reportedly heading towards khana local government area of the state.
The suspected political thugs were intercepted during the mid-afternoon hours on Friday, at about 2pm.
Our Police source disclosed that they were travelling to an unknown destination in a white Mitsubishi bus, marked Rivers, plate number withheld.
Items found on them included three single-barrel guns cut to size, one double-barrel gun cut to size, 193 live cartridges, one big torch and about N100,000, mostly in N1000 denomination.
It was gathered that the men had pretended to be hunters going on expedition when accosted by the policemen.
They were later alleged to have said that they were on their way to Andoni LGA to hunt for bats, but could not explain why they were moving with such ammunitions.
Our correspondent also learnt that the men could not explain who gave them such a huge amount and its relation with their hunting expedition.
The source said that when the men discovered that the policemen were not prepared to let them go, they allegedly offered them the money on them, which the policemen flatly rejected.
The antics of the men were said to have annoyed the policemen, said to have been deployed from other States, leading to the battering of the suspects.
As at the time of filling this report The PDP in Rivers state have not released any statement denying the allegation.
