North-Central Stakeholders Visit Niger Gov. Bello, Bags His Support For Zoning Of APC National Chairmanship To North-Central
All Progressives Congress (APC) North-Central Stakeholders under the auspices of the APC North-Central Stakeholders Forum (NCSF) today paid a courtesy visit to the Niger State Governor, Gov. Abubakar Sani Bello in continuation of its advocacy for the zoning of the APC National Chairmanship to the North-Central in the forthcoming National Convention.
The coordinator of the forum, Comrade Dominic Alancha in his opening remarks thanked the Governor for finding time out of his busy schedule to grant audience to the group. He commended his efforts in tackling insurgency in the State and his yeoman’s job in bequeathing progressive governance.
Comrade Alancha stated that the forum thought it imperative to visit the Governor given his position as Chairman, APC North-Central Governors and the rep of the North-central in the Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) to solicit his support for the zoning of the position of APC National Chairman to the North-Central.
He emphasised that the Governor’s endorsement is crucial in motivating the group to go all out in lobbying other Governors from the North-Central and consequently mobilising support for the advocacy in the remaining five geo-political zones. He stated that the forum has identified Sen. Tanko Al-Makura, a foremost son of the North-Central, and former Governor of Nasarawa State as a suitable and competent candidate for the post.
The Governor in his response, thanked the group for the visit. He stated he believes it is imperative to meet members of the APC from the North-Central that seek audience, especially those with a genuine cause like the North-Central Stakeholders Forum (NCSF).
Gov. Bello reminded his guests that the country is facing more challenges now in 2021 than in 2014 at the twilight of the past administration, emphasizing that though he believes the APC is the party to beat, it has to do more to justify the confidence of the electorate as we approach the 2023 General elections.
The Governor strongly believes that the problem of insecurity will be addressed by a combination of efforts of State, Federal govt and citizens. He lauded the proactiveness of the Federal Government and security agencies over the past few days in that regard, stating that with the current efforts, normalcy will be restored soon and the issue of banditry will be reduced to the barest minimum.
On the issue of zoning, Gov. Bello affirmed that there is a seeming consensus that all current positions down south will move up North. “It is the expectation of a vast majority of our people that there will be a rotation”, he enthused.
Though aspirants for APC National Chairman abound in the North-East and North-West, the Governor informed his audience that he has persuaded his colleagues in the North-Central to indicate interest and lobby for the position, stressing that the contribution of the North-central to the fortunes of the ruling party cannot be overemphasised.
He therefore gave his blessing to the advocacy of the North-Central stakeholders and concluded that when the position of the APC helmsman is zoned to the region, the leaders will support a candidate that is competent, possess the requisite ability and is capable of taking the party to greater heights.
The coordinator of the forum, Comrade Alancha, assisted by Deputy Coordinator, Barr. Aliyu Yusuf then decorated the Niger Governor as an Ambassador of the forum, thanking him for his kind words and promised to do their utmost to ensure the emergence of a National Chairman from the North-Central.
