Man Stabs Friend to Death over Missing Phone

Homicide detectives have arrested a 21-year-old young man for allegedly stabbing to death his friend over a missing mobile handset.

The incident occurred on Christmas Day at Ope-Ilu community, Agbado, in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State.

It was gathered that trouble began on the Christmas day at a beer parlour when the suspect, Israel Oluranti, accused the deceased, Farouq Olusegun, that he was responsible for the missing mobile handset he had been searching for, a development which Farouq, 18-year-old, felt infuriated and took it up with the suspect, Israel, of wrong accusation.

It was learnt that the suspect did not take it lightly with Farouq over his missing handset and instead, a hot argument ensued and the former picked a bottle of beer, broke it and stabbed the latter in the chest.

Mr Abimbola Opeyemi, Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, who confirmed the incident, said while the victim was been rushed to a nearby hospital he gave up the ghost before getting to the hospital. Opeyemi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), disclosed that the father of the victim, Kolawole Abiola, lodged complaints at Agbado Divisional Headquarters, while the DPO, Omonijo Sunday, had to detail police detectives to the scene where the suspect was promptly arrested.

However, the police spokesman said the Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Ahmed Iliyasu, had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the operatives attached to the Homicide Section of State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for a discreet investigation into the matter.
