The 2015 election in Rivers state must have come and gone, but yet its ripples have lingered ad-infinito as the blood of all those who were gruesomely murdered in cold blood for no other reasons than
performing their legitimate civic cum electoral duties and obligations, keep crying to God in heaven and indeed all those who still have good conscience for vengeance.
Even though we would agree with the biblical apothegm that posit that ultimate vengeance is of God, it will not be out of place to for a while as a people, PAUSE, PONDER, REFLECT & REFORM our past actions, inactions, decisions and indecisions… for indeed the unexamined life is not worth living. Therefore, the cultivators and incubators of the idea of Rivers Black Night- a day set aside to remember and honour all the victims of electoral violence and pass an attitudinal change message to the people, and also to call on relevant authorities for justice – is certainly a step in the right direction.
It is therefore a clarion call on all and sundry to extricate themselves from the dogma of sheepish political affiliations and other forms of prebendalisms to approach mount Olympus in compact unionis cum subjectionis to say a caboodle rejectamenta to all forms of red-blood politics cum revolution and apotheosize cum totally embrace a new political culture ( modus vivendi cum operandi ) of a common sense bloodless revolution.
The injured and dead victims could be any of us, so we must all endeavour to quench this smoke before it becomes a great conflagration or wild fire that will consume all of us. including you reading this piece now!
