The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has set January 9, 2016, for the conclusion of the governorship election in Bayelsa State.
Crystal News reports that the electoral umpire had declared the governorship election, which took place on December 5 inconclusive after a political party had scored high in the local government. According to the INEC, violence erupted in Southern Ijaw local government area, that was why the results were cancelled.
The spokesperson for INEC, Nick Dazang, who confirmed the new date for election in Southern Ijaw local government said the commission had already issued a public notice on the exercise.
Mr. Dazang said all political parties with candidates in the election had already been notified.
